Johann Paul Barth, son of Adam Barth & Catharina Margaretha Weber, was born in Gedern on 29 March 1739.

He married in Gedern on 23 June 1763 to Susanna Margaretha Fritz, daughter of Johann Conrad Fritz from Oberlaiß.

The births/baptisms of two children born to Johann Paul Barth & Susanna Margaretha Fritz are recorded in the parish register of Gedern: (1) Catharina Christina, born 27 December 1763, baptized 4 January 1764; and (2) Johann Adam, born 20 September 1765, baptized 22 September 1765.

Johann [Paul] Barth, a farmer, and his wife Susanna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Reinwald on 24 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 46.

The 1767 census records that Paul Barth came from the German village of Gedern in the Stolberg region.
