Johann Christoph Bröse, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and daughter Sophia Dorothea (age 9) settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 19 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 35.

The 1767 census records that Johann Christoph Bröse came from the German village of Mahndorf in the region of Anhalt-Zerbst.
