Balthasar Erler, a farmer, and his wife Katharina settled in the Volga German colony of Rohleder on 28 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census along with the single man Justus Gorf. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Erler and Gorf families.
In 1780, Sebastian Erler moved from Rohleder to Kamenka.
The 1767 census records that Balthasar Erler came from the German region of Würzburg.
