Melchior Helwig, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Norka on 15 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 44.
The 1767 census records that Melchior Helwig came from the German district of Isenburg.
