Nikolaus Herrmann, a farmer, and his wife Katharina settled in the Volga German colony of Leichtling on 14 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 49.

Nikolaus Herrmann and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Leightling in Household No. Lg06.

Johannes Herrmann, son of Nikolaus Herrmann, relocated from Leichtling to Mariental in 1825 where he is recorded on the 1834 census in Household No. 201.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Herrmann came from the German village of Alzey.
