Nikolaus Jäger, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 16 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 2. The parish register records that Nikolaus Jeger died in Mariental on 22 March 1796.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Jäger came from the German village of Steinheim in the Kurmainz region.
