Martin Kappel, a mason (Maurer), his wife Anna Maria Feidel, and daughter Christina (age 6) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 140. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

The 1767 census records that Martin Kappel came from the German village of Rostock and that Anna Maria Feidel came from the town of Lübeck.
