Gottfried Knoll, a butcher, and his wife Henrietta arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Gottfried's wife died, and he remarried Louisa. They settled in the Volga German colony of Orlovskaya and Gottfried also died. His second wife Louisa remarried to David Alberg and is recorded on the 1767 census of Orlovskaya in Household No. 58 along with her son Gottfried Knoll (age 1).

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Gottfried Knoll came from the German region of Dessau.
