Discussion & Documentation:

There are two Langmann families that settled in the Volga German colony of Reinwald on 24 June 1767. They arrived together from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax. Their relationship to each other is not recorded on the 1767 census.

(1) Johannes Langmann, a farmer, and his wife Katharina are recorded on the 1767 census of Reinwald in Household No. 49.

(2) Johann [Christoph] Langmann arrived at Oranienbaum as the servant of Johann[es] Weber. He and his wife Anna are recorded on the 1767 census of Reinwald in Household No. 50. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Langmann was a blacksmith while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.

Christoph Langmann and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Reinwald in Household No. Rw49.

The widow and children of Jakob Langmann, believed to be the son of Christoph, are recorded on the 1798 census of Reinwald in Household No. Rw52.

Adam Langmann, son of Jakob Langmann, and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Reinwald in Household No. 77.

The 1798 census of Reinwald records this surname as both Landmann and Langmann. Subsequent censuses record it as Langmann [but there is also a Landmann family in Reinwald].

The 1767 census records that both of these Langmann families came from the German village of Gedern in the Stolberg region.
