Franz Joseph Mermis, a soldier (Soldat), his wife Katharina, and their son Obert (age2) settled in the Volga German colony of Herzog on 14 July 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26.
The 1767 census records that Franz Joseph Mermis came from the village of Schärflond in France.
