Widow Appolonia Metz and her sons (Johann Heinrich, age 11; Christoph, age 6) are recorded on the 1767 census of Hölzel in Household No. 8. They had settled there on 11 September 1767. Her husband, Joseph Metz, had been murdered by strangers during the move from Saratov to Hölzel.
The 1767 census records that Appolonia Metz came from the German village of Ochsenfurt in the Würzburg region.
