August Relke, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Dorothea settled in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka on 8 May 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 58 along with their new-born son Carl Gottfried.

The 1798 census of Holstein records Karl Relke in Household No. Ho36.

The 1767 census records that August Relke came from the German village of Liewart in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
