Jakob Rome, a farmer, his wife Anna Elisabeth, and son Johann Michael (age 1) are recorded on the 1798 census of Herzog in Household No. 4. They had settled there on 14 Juy 1766.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Rome came from the German village of Kaiserslautern in the Kurpfalz region.
