Discussion & Documentation:

Johann Siehr, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Households No. 34 & 35.

Son Johann[es] Siehr and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Franzosen in Household No. Fz02. [Some translations erroneously record the surname in Franzosen as Zier.]

The 1767 census records that Johann Siehr came from the German village of Merzig in the Kurtrier region.
