Johannes Österlein, a farmer, his wife Sophia, and daughter Dorothea (age 12) are recorded on the 1767 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. 4 along with stepdaughter Anna Blumberger (age 4). They had settled there on 7 June 1767.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Österlein came from the German village of Karling.
