Discussion & Documentation:

Heinrich Spätter was born 5 May 1795 in Germany. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. Documents related to him as a captured Napoleonic soldier refer to him being from the German region of Westfalen.

He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Messer. He is recorded there on the 1834 Census of Messer in Household No. 186.

The death of Johann Heinrich Später on 22 December 1844 is recorded on the 1834-1850 Messer Family List in Household No. 192. The Family List records that he had been confirmed in Osterode which is in Ostfalen (rather than Westfalen).
